Indications
Diphenhydramine ampules are used to treat a variety of conditions, including:
- Allergic reactions: To relieve allergic reactions, especially severe ones like anaphylaxis, when oral medication is not possible.
- Motion sickness: To prevent and treat nausea, vomiting, and dizziness caused by motion sickness.
- Parkinsonism: To help control symptoms of Parkinson's disease, especially when oral medication is not possible.
Dosage Recommendation
The dosage of diphenhydramine should be determined by a healthcare professional and will vary depending on the patient's age, weight, and condition. It is typically administered intravenously or intramuscularly.
- Adults: 10 to 50 mg intravenously, or 100 mg intramuscularly, as needed. The maximum daily dose is 400 mg.
- Children: 5 mg/kg/24 hours or 150 mg/m²/24 hours, divided into four doses. The maximum daily dose is 300 mg.
Precautions
Diphenhydramine should be used with caution in patients with certain medical conditions, including:
- Glaucoma: Diphenhydramine can worsen glaucoma.
- Peptic ulcers: Diphenhydramine can worsen peptic ulcers.
- Prostatic hypertrophy: Diphenhydramine can worsen prostatic hypertrophy.
- Asthma: Diphenhydramine can worsen asthma.
- Cardiovascular disease: Diphenhydramine can worsen cardiovascular disease.
- Hypertension: Diphenhydramine can worsen hypertension.
Adverse Reactions
