Product Description
Norfloxacin 400mg tablets are a type of antibiotic medication used to treat various bacterial infections. It belongs to a class of drugs called fluoroquinolone antibiotics. Norfloxacin works by stopping the growth of bacteria, effectively fighting off infections.
Uses:
Norfloxacin 400mg tablets are prescribed for a variety of bacterial infections, including:
- Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs): This includes both uncomplicated cystitis (bladder infection) and more serious infections like acute pyelonephritis (kidney infection).
- Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs): Norfloxacin is effective against susceptible strains of Neisseria gonorrhoeae, the bacteria responsible for gonorrhea.
- Other Infections: Norfloxacin may be used for other infections, including traveler's diarrhea, but it is not the first-line choice for all bacterial infections.
Dosage and Administration:
The recommended dosage of norfloxacin varies depending on the type and severity of the infection being treated. Typically, adults take 400mg twice daily (every 12 hours).
- Single Dose: For some infections, like uncomplicated cystitis or gonorrhea, a single 800mg dose may be sufficient.
- Multiple Doses: For more severe or complicated infections, a higher dose of 400mg twice daily may be necessary.
- Frequency: Doses are typically given at equal intervals, usually every 12 hours.
- Administration: Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not crush, chew, or break the tablet.
- Food: Take norfloxacin on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals. Avoid taking it with dairy products like milk or yogurt.
- Other Medications: Take norfloxacin at least 2 hours before or 2 hours after taking other medications that can interfere with its absorption, such as antacids, sucralfate, and supplements containing iron or zinc.
Important Precautions:
